As a reproductive justice network, we are committed to becoming better allies internally, organizationally, and movement-wide by building broader movements for reproductive, social, climate, and economic justice and developing accountable leadership able to lead the work.

We recognize that adopting an anti-oppression framework is a necessary part of the journey towards reproductive freedom. We strive as a body of repro advocates and allies to transform our perspectives and practices to challenge abortion stigma, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, ethnocentrism, and oppression in all its forms. Individual and organizational members of the network understand and embrace the following commitments and principles:

  • Addressing white supremacy: CRAN is committed to embodying an organizational culture that is anti-racist in practice and accountable to Black, Indigenous, and all communities of color. There is no liberation without the full dismantling of white supremacy in our individual, communal, and societal spheres. All forms of oppression – including reproductive oppression – are interconnected and interdependent. CRAN is committed to doing the work to analyze and be cognizant of the narratives that help to legitimize institutions of oppression.
  • Collaboration and community care: CRAN is committed to developing authentic relationships across reproductive health, rights, and justice and accomplice organizations We prioritize listening to people who have had abortions, youth, women, queer folks, and people of color. We listen to impacted communities’ experiences, stories and histories as told by them and do not claim or reproduce these narratives as our own.
  • Cultivating leadership: CRAN is committed to developing leadership intentionally and systematically within our organization and prioritizes emerging leaders. We actively seek to build and maintain an intentional, intersectional leadership in regard to race, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, ability, age, gender and sexual orientation. CRAN is committed to fostering the leadership and elevating the voices of young people, Indigenous, Black, and folks of color, women, LGBTQ+, gender-nonconforming, and non-binary people, immigrants and refugees, sex workers, low- income, undocumented, formerly incarcerated, and other intersections of marginalized identities.
  • Strategy in action: CRAN is committed to acting to consciously and consistently challenge historic patterns of marginalization and all forms of oppression by being visible allies and taking public positions against oppression.
